When we set out to create Nanit, we sat down with parents and analyzed their current baby monitor situations. Time and again, we discovered that many digital baby monitors and IOT cameras had cords, cables and plugs that posed potential safety hazards in the nursery. That’s why we specifically designed Nanit with an innovative cord management system that keeps wires under control and stored away from baby. Brilliantly simple and completely safe.

Baby Monitor Safety – A tip-proof stand like no other

Nanit’s unique stand gives you an unobstructed, top-down, bird’s eye view of baby in the crib. In our research, we noticed that a lot of parents were jury rigging stands in order to get a similar view, leading to unstable setups that could easily tip over. Nanit’s stand is different. It has weighted legs for maximum stability – in other words, it’ll never budge. And, Nanit’s camera and stand go behind the crib, never coming in contact with your baby or the crib. A 2-year-old in the 90th percentile of growth (aka baby LeBron James!) wouldn’t be able to reach Nanit, even if standing with arms outstretched.

Baby Monitor Safety – Bye-Bye, Hackers

Many parents can’t help but wonder, “Are video baby monitors safe?” And for good reason. You hear a lot of stories about video monitors getting hacked. Nanit, though, was designed to be secure. Our IT infrastructure also utilizes AWS cloud computing. That means our servers are protected by top-notch physical and digital security measures, and constantly audited for compliance. (P.S. Natalie Barnett, PhD serves as VP of Clinical Research at Nanit. Natalie initiated sleep research collaborations at Nanit and in her current role, Natalie oversees collaborations with researchers at hospitals and universities around the world who use the Nanit camera to better understand pediatric sleep and leads the internal sleep and development research programs at Nanit. Natalie holds a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of New England in Australia and a Postgraduate Certificate in Pediatric Sleep Science from the University of Western Australia. Natalie was an Assistant Professor in the Neurogenetics Unit at NYU School of Medicine prior to joining Nanit. Natalie is also the voice of Nanit's science-backed, personalized sleep tips delivered to users throughout their baby's first few years.

Dr. Maristella Lucchini serves as Senior Clinical Researcher at Nanit. In her role, Maristella works to secure grant funding in collaboration with Nanit's university research partners and supports the development of the company's research collaborations around the world. Previously, Maristella served as an Assistant Research Scientist in the Division of Developmental Neuroscience, Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center where she led projects across several cohorts focusing on prenatal and perinatal health. Maristella holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano.
